Zero Harm

Zero Harm

In 2009, Balfour Beatty celebrated its centenary. On this basis alone, our business model has certainly proved to be sustainable. In order to continue our success towards our second centenary, we are responding to a definition of sustainability which includes a far wider set of criteria than we have seen to date.

• Profitable Markets

Customers - Working with customers to achieve their sustainability aspirations

Influence - Helping to create markets in which sustainability is consistently the best option

• Healthy Communities

Our People - Engaging our people in sustainability

Our Supply Chain - Partnering with our supply chain to deliver sustainable solutions

The Communities we serve - Improving the quality of life for communities and individuals

• Environmental Limits

Climate change - Reducing our emissions of greenhouse gases
- Adapting to the impacts of climate change
- Providing low carbon solutions for our customers

Waste - Reducing the waste we generate and managing waste as a resource

Water - Assessing and reducing our use of water

Materials - Sourcing responsibly and selecting materials for lower environmental impacts

Ecology - Protecting and enhancing ecological resources

ZERO HARM

We place safety at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to helping our customers reach the highest levels of safety through the innovative products, services and solutions that we offer.

Zero Harm Working Task Groups

We have identified our top five fatal risks and formed working task groups to eliminate these risks so that there is no realistic likelihood of a serious accident. In addition to this we have a system to understand many other risks falling outside of these five categories and manage these accordingly.

Click on the links below to read the progress made by each group and how we can help eliminate the risks in your business.

We will get to our target by: leading, simplifying, re-thinking, involving, learning and tracking.
