Driver Risk Management Programme Update
18 months on from programme launch, we look at how things have progressed…
E - Learning Modules
These web-based modules have been heightening awareness and testing knowledge of the company car and commercial vehicle fleets in various Balfour Beatty OpCo’s since programme launch.
Driver Risk Index (DRI)
The DRI is the UK’s premier psychometric risk assessment developed in association with Cranfield University, an academic institution responsible for over 25 years of research into driver behaviour. This user friendly, web-based tool has helped numerous OpCo’s to classify their drivers into ‘high’, ‘medium’ and ‘low risk’ categories, enabling them to easily identify targeted training requirements and Make Safety Personal. The interventions outlined below have been specifically designed to mitigate the risks identified through the DRI…
Driver Development Courses
Our one-day driver development course includes engaging practical, theory and group sessions, as well as one-to-one coaching and usage of the unique Driving Simulator. This popular course has predominantly served as an intervention for drivers flagged as ‘high risk’ through the DRI and has seen significant positive results, both in terms of behavioural change and collision reduction. Other targeted training includes the Young Driver Course and the High Mileage Course.
Drive Safe Workshops
These half-day, highly interactive and challenging sessions have recently been launched to supplement the other elements of the programme with a specific design to engage with those drivers falling into a ‘medium risk’ category. The workshops are deliverable UK wide and bespoke content can be devised if required.
Drive Safe, Arrive Safe (DSAS) Presentations
These topical and thought provoking sessions are passionately delivered and have been hugely popular both within Balfour Beatty and externally. The interactive DSAS presentations have been utilised all over the UK as an intervention for large groups of drivers, as a tool to deliver OpCo specific safety messages, and as part of seminars and conferences. External customers include; ATS Euromaster, Bethell Group Ltd and Northern Foods.
Other Services
The programme also boasts a whole range of additional driving solutions such as Skid Car Training, Collision Investigation Courses, Drink / Drug Awareness, 4x4 Training, Zero Harm Driving Roadshows, and a series of Safe & Fuel Efficient Driving (SaFED) interventions.
