Annual Test Change

01.01.12

The annual test will be changing in January 2012 as a result of the EU’s Testing Directive. Here’s a reminder of what’s to come.

To keep the burden to operators to a minimum, most of the new test items only apply if they are fitted to your vehicle.

The new testable items and test standards are detailed in the new Inspection Manuals are available HERE

Anyone who prepares vehicles for annual test will need to be familiar with the changes. New test items have been kept to a minimum and we are also reviewing the test to see where it can be simplified to offset the addition of the new items.

After 1 January 2012, you will need to be careful when presenting vehicles with systems or parts fitted that fall under the new items added to the test.

Although we are preparing VOSA testers in advance, it is likely that during the early stages some of tests may take a little longer to complete when they include some of the more complicated changes.

But to make sure the transition is as smooth as possible there is a three-month ‘pass and advise’ period to allow VOSA staff and you to become familiar with the new test items. New test item defects will not be a ‘fail’ until April 2012.
